Which is better; winning or everyone else losing?

7/20/2014

Unique to Dubious Alliance is the 'one Player wins, or everyone loses' victory condition. Because Players are obligated to keep each other (barely) alive, you cant simply kill off your competition. So when you do amass the Prestige to command the tribe, you are quite proud to have best-ed your 'friends'. However, if you are the wounded Orc who sees victory is hopeless, you may be tempted to kill yourself off and end the game before a victor is crowned. Which is a more rewarding end; to win or to end the game and stop someone else from victory?

Propose the Major Curse card

6/28/2014

In the final hours of an exciting Kickstarter funding campaign, the tribe banded together to unlock the 13th and final Stretch Goal - a Major Curse. Despite all warnings in Update #19 not to open the magic box, the Gore Stained Axe Tribe ignored the Dungeon Master and opened it... so lets really punish all Players for their insolence!

"Curse" cards are bad. So a Major Curse Card should be really bad. Perhaps it adds an 'environmental effect' on all Players, threatens to end the game or prevents a Player from winning. Maybe it makes the game harder on a player, or the howl group. Here are a few possibilities to get you thinking...
  • Silence 10' Radius- Player's cannot speak during trading
  • Strike Blind- The Player cannot look at his Player Cards
  • Pestilence - All Players must discard a positive Survival card

What horrific spell, event, item or condition would you unleash on the tribe?

Our biggest Stretch Goal addition to Dubious Alliance is a Booster Pack of Wandering Monsters! This means we have 8 new Monster cards to decide, one of which will be adde dto all games.

This is exciting because we get to argue about our favorite fantasy monsters! How often do you get decide what horrors are waiting for you when you gear up for adventure?

So dig up that Monster Manual and lets see what is lurking down the hall way. Feel free to propose all 8 new Monster cards...

Propose New Card - An Advanced Level Magic Card

6/28/2014

This next card will be a coveted magic card. Perhaps it is an 'instant' Spell Card, Magic Item, Magic Weapon or something else.  So get out your old Dungeon Masters Guide and suggest a magic type card to add to the game.

This card should have a cool game effect, but not be so powerful that it unbalances the whole game, sorry, no Ring of Three Wishes.

What is the one Magic Item you want?

Propose New Card - A Mundane Item

6/28/2014

A new card with the key word "Item" will be added to the base game. Although this item is not magical, that doesn't mean it it is not useful! A few ideas were already shared on Kickstarter Update #5. Here they are to get you thinking:
  • 10 foot Pole- Use this long stick to poke ahead and save yourself from a trap card
  • The Lost Puppy- Trade it and it comes back to you.
  • Skull of fallen opponent-  Morale bonus, or sacrifice it to discard and Enemy
  • The Field Mistress - Negative Prestige, positive Survival, "Soothe the day's battle pains in the loving embrace of your straw "friend". The negative prestige is due to the embarrassment of using the mistress rather than a living companion.
  • Thieve's Tools - Steal a Location Card
  • A Piece of Chalk - no game effect. It is that mundane!
  • A Scabbard - holds an extra weapon card

We only get to choose one new piece of equipment. What is the one item you think we should take with us on our next adventure? Describe it and (if you can) propose a game effect.

Let the tribe decide! Propose new cards on "Must Trade" by July 4th

Stretch Goals on Kickstarter unlocked several new game cards. Soon ImmOrctal and Warchief backers will receive an exclusive survey to decide what new cards will be added to Dubious Alliance. But every Orc has a voice! During the next 10 days, we will use the "Must Trade" blog to invite everyone to comment, discuss and cajole the Warchiefs (and me!) to add their favorite ideas into the final survey.  Hail the tribe if you like "DemOrcCracy"!
